Working with Visuals

Visuals are a tool to add custom images and drawings (and soon animations) to exercise items, so students are provided better illustrations and images for their learning.

It is often hard to find the exact image or picture required to illustrate a concept or question, and the Visual tool will make it easier for teachers to draw up an illustration for any item whenever needed.

Using Visuals in Items

Use the Visuals button available in all item editors to add visuals for that item.  Visuals are displayed in the item viewer between the question and answer sections.

You could also export your visuals as images, and then upload them to the server for use as images in other items.  Currently all visuals and images are of fixed size (800x500).

Some item editors, e.g. TouchImage type editor, allow you to directly use a visual instead of an image.

Exporting Images

An illustration done as a visual can be exported as an image, so they can also be used in Item Types that need custom images.  One limitation is that all  images includes in the visual must be first uploaded to the edcite server via the image upload link.  Images with an external URL can be used in visuals, however such visuals cannot be exported as images.

To export the image for an illustration, click on Export Image.  This opens a new browser window containing the exported image.  Right-click over the image and use the Save Image option to save the image to file.

Once you have the image on disk, you can then use the Upload Images tool on your Edcite home page to upload the image.
